Interested in the art of the ocean?
The Roland E. Powell Convention Center in Ocean City, Md. is hosting a Nautical & Wildlife Art Festival and Craft Show on Jan. 14 – 15, to display artworks of more then 30 artists and craftsmen.
According to Ami Hastings, private coordinator for the event, the Nautical & Wildlife Art Festival and Craft Show was started over 30 years ago by her father, Donald Hastings.
“It was sort of a natural extension of his retail business (now closed) Donald’s Duck Shoppe, which in addition to selling gift and souvenir items, also sold original artwork from local and regionally acclaimed artists,” Hastings says.
Hastings says the show was founded with the idea of more robustly showcasing local, regional and national artists. Over the years, the show grew to include a craft show element to showcase talented craftspeople exhibiting all mediums of handcrafted work including woodwork, metal art, glass and stained glass, ceramics and pottery, textiles, candles and other scented products, jewelry and handmade food products.
“I helped my dad out with these shows for years, even putting together my own Art and Craft event, the Labor Day Weekend Art and Craft Festival (since discontinued but ran for over 20 years),” Hastings says. “When my dad retired a couple years ago, I officially took over this show from him.”
Long-time exhibitors for the event include Sandyhook Art Glass Studio, Secrets of the Universe and Mary Lou Troutman. Other exhibitors include Seashore Carvings, Naptown Nautical and Crabtown Photography.
