Today on DelmarvaLife:
The threat of Hurricane Florence postponed an event aimed at celebrating the town of Crisfield. The “Dancing Under the Stars” Gala at Kingsbay Mansion in Marion Station will now take place Saturday, September 29th. The event is sponsored by the Greater Crisfield Action Coalition. You can purchase tickets here.
The non-profit organization “No Barriers” recently helped a paralyzed woman climb her first 14,000 foot mountain. Twenty-seven hikers met up with Nerissa Cannon and set out before sunrise. We’re looking forward to sharing with you this incredible story.
We all know horses are beautiful, majestic creatures, and many seem to have quite the personality. What you may not know is the impact horses can have on a young person who has experienced heartache. We sit down with leaders of Coastal Hospice & Palliative Care, to hear how they’re offering “Hope and Healing with Horses.” If you’d like to register a child for this event, call 443-944-5846.
Another organization offers support for the men and women in our military. The Hertrich Family of Automobile Dealerships‘ “Snack Pack the Truck” campaign is underway. Hertrich is collecting snacks and bottled water, and will present them to our local United Service Organizations. You’re encouraged to drop off items to any Hertrich location in the month of September. Items needed include the following:
Cases of water & PowerAde (20 oz. or less)
12 oz. canned Coca-Cola products
Boxes of Slim Jims
Peanuts, fruit snacks, cookies, Teddy Grahams, animal crackers (single serve)
Ground coffee
Variety 6-pack crackers
Bags of cups (12 oz.)
Plastic & styrofoam cups (12 oz.)
Forks, knives, spoons, paper plates, napkins
Enjoying a scoop of farm-fresh ice cream after running a 5k might seem unconventional, but at Hopkins Farm Creamery in Lewes, that’s the only way to do it. There will be scoops upon scoops upon scoops after the Ultimate Farm 5k next weekend. DelmarvaLife’s Sydney Whitfield got to check out the beautiful course, and hears why this isn’t your typical 5k.
Have you ever watched a show or read a book that just spoke to you? You could relate to it – it “touched your soul.” We’re learning about a production that will probably fit that description. And while “Rabbit Hole” is a show about death, the underlying theme is really about living. Executive Director of Clear Space Theatre Company in Rehoboth Beach, Wesley Paulson, and Rabbit Hole Director, Shannon Parks, sit down with us to tell us more about this show.
It was January 9, 2012, when DelmarvaLife debuted, and every year since then, it’s been our pleasure to show you every spring and every fall, some of the fun you can find at Springfest and Sunfest in Ocean City. Being that it’s September, Sunfest 2018 kicked off earlier today. DelmarvaLife’s Sydney Whitfield got to spend some time with Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan, to learn more about this year’s end-of-summer celebration.
